Led by dancer, actor and indigenous activist Larry Yazzie, five artists from different indigenous tribes form the USA and Canada will introduce audiences to the traditional dances and rituals of the Meskwaki, Ojibwe, Ho-chunk, Narragansett and Lakota peoples. Their impressive costumes, called regalia, are unique to each dance. The regalia for the eagle dance, for example, is made from the real feathers of this majestic bird. Others are made from embroidery, buffalo bones, furs, horse manes, deerskins and bells. First Nations traditions, based on oral transmission, as well as dances and rituals, are closely linked to spirituality, animals and the sacred bond with Mother Earth.
